This guide is written from the perspective of a high-tier Japanese destroyer. This guide intends to give you a boost in that process by sharing some of the insights I think I’ve learned. The necessary skills to succeed with torpedoes are gained through insight and experience. In fact, I believe that the skill cap for torpedoes is quite high. This sounds complicated, but in practice, once you’ve mastered these skills, you will gain enormous confidence in your ability to hit a target with your fish at the most critical moment.Īs a player with 883 of my 1082 destroyer games played in ships from the Japanese destroyer line with a 60% winrate, I can assure you that there is FAR more skill in torpedo “walls of skill” than some might believe. Effective torpedo play involves positioning yourself to find vulnerable targets, achieving an attack angle that maximizes your hit probability, accurately predicting your target’s movement through observation and by understanding player psychology, and placing your torpedoes accordingly. That is because torpedo gameplay is actually quite cerebral. In fact, I believe that with practice and experience, a torpedo destroyer captain should *expect* to reliably score at least one hit per salvo against an unprotected battleship that is unaware of your presence.
